Q: What makes Syndion different from other products?
A:  Syndion is supported by clinical data showing beneficial effects and utilizes an absorption technology that facilitates absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients even if there is liver dysfunction, digestive issues or pancreatic insufficiency.  This absorption technology is supported by published articles.

Q: What is the difference between Syndion and Syndion-SF?

A:  Syndion is sweetened with fructose and sucralose.  Syndion-SF is sweetened with fructose, xylitol, and stevia, and the sodium benzoate and EDTA have been omitted. Both product contain the same active ingredients at the same concentrations, as used in the clinical study.

Q: How long will a bottle of Syndion last and how much will it cost per month?

A:  Syndion is dosed according to body weight.

         --------------------------------------------------------------    Clinical Questions   -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which formulation of Syndion should I use for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)?
A:  Syndion-SF is the same as Syndion only without sucralose, sodium benzoate, and EDTA. It contains stevia and xylitol as sweeteners replacing the sucralose. Both formulations contain a small amount of fructose and one of the vitamins is derived from corn starch, although Syndion tests to be free of corn protein. Syndion-SF was formulated for those who want a sucralose-free formulation.  Neither formulation is tailored to the SCD nor would either be preferable to the other for use with the SCD.

Q: If my child develops sleep issues from Syndion, what do you suggest?
A:  If you develop sleep issues while using Syndion, we suggest that you temporarily reduce the daily dose and increase the dosage more gradually until you reach the target daily dose.  Also, taking the complete daily dose before noon may help.

Q: Will this product interfere with my child’s medications?
A:   Syndion is an antioxidant multivitamin and mineral formulation and should not interfere with medications, however please consult with your healthcare provider if you have specific concerns.

Q: I am concerned about the level of vitamin A in Syndion - is there any danger?
A: The Vitamin A in Syndion is 85% beta-carotene and only 15% palmitate (pre-formed). A 7.5 ml daily dose contains 500 IU of pre-formed vitamin A (from palmitate) and the remainder is beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body as needed, but does not reach toxic levels. It is a safer source of vitamin A and also an antioxidant. There is no concern with hypervitaminosis A with beta-carotene supplementation because of the strict regulation of this conversion in the body, and there has been no known vitamin A toxicity due to beta carotene supplementation even with levels as high as 180mg (300,000 IU) per day.

Q: Is n-acetyl cysteine safe for my child?
A: The dose of n-acetyl cysteine in Syndion is very moderate and is not a concern for GI issues.  In fact, many children who completed the pilot and clinical studies exhibited beneficial GI effects and decreased mercury levels as well as increased glutathione levels.  Adams and Holloway in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Vol10, Number 6, 2004, pp 1033-1039 showed an improvement in GI symptoms with a multivitamin containing n-acetyl cysteine. The adult dose of Syndion contains 75 mg, and the dose for a 60 pound child contains 45 mg, considerably lower than the 600–1200 mg doses used in most studies.  It should also be noted that NIH is currently funding at least 5 studies evaluating the effectiveness of supplementing with n-acetyl cysteine, and there are also others such as at the Riley Hospital for Children. To view NIH studies, click here.

Q: I am concerned about the TPGS in Syndion – is this okay for my child?
A:  d-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS) is derived from natural source vegetable oils.  TPGS has been in commercial use for over 35 years and has a self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) status. A monograph has been published in the United States Pharmacopeia. TPGS has been incorporated in products for patients with liver disease, cystic fibrosis, AIDs and other conditions.

Q: I am concerned about the lithium in Syndion – is this okay for my child?
A:  Lithium is needed for mental health and for healthy immunological status.  Syndion contains roughly 1/100 of the lowest medicinal dose of lithium.  Treatment regimens for medical conditions treated with lithium range from 600 mg to 2,400 mg per day.  Syndion contains only 833 mcg (this is less than 1 mg) in the adult dose, and 500 mcg (0.5 mg) in the dose for a 60 pound child. Please refer to the published article referenced below from the Journal of Clinical Nutrition, where Schrauzer notes that we typically ingest between 650 and 3100 mcg per day of lithium from food sources, mostly from grains, vegetables, and dairy. To view the article, click here.

Q: My child has developed some minor stomach issues from the product but I do not want him/her to stop taking it, what should I do?
A:  Make sure the child is taking Syndion along with food as this will assist absorption and minimize digestion issues.  You may also consider dropping to a lower dose for a week and then increasing more gradually to the target daily dose.

Q: Can Syndion only be taken by those with special nutritional needs and food sensitivities?
A:
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are common in the general population as well, so a multivitamin can be beneficial to anyone not receiving 3-4 servings of nutritious vegetables and 1-2 servings of fruit each day. Please consult your healthcare provider.

Q: Can special diets lead to nutrient deficiency?
A:  Nutrient deficiencies are common among children and adults with developmental disorders. Food sensitivities, allergies, and dietary interventions, such as gluten-free and casein-free diets, may cause them to lack essential vitamins and minerals necessary for good nutrition and development. Some people may also have problems absorbing vitamins and minerals due to digestive problems. An alternative source may be necessary for good nutrition.

Q: What are the signs of poor nutrition?
A:  Many of the vitamins and minerals present in foods with gluten (wheat, barley, rye) and casein (milk, cheese, yogurt) play an important role in the immune system and in development.  Poor nutrition can lead to behavioral problems, frequent illness, lack of energy, vision problems, and unhealthy skin tone.

        ------------------------------------------------------------------------   Allergens  --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is Syndion gluten and casein free?
A:
Yes Syndion is gluten and casein free.

Q: I am concerned about allergens?
A:  Syndion is free of gluten, casein, glucose, yeast, egg, copper, and iron. Syndion’s container is bisphenol A & phthalate free, and PC & PVC plastic free. Syndion does contain corn.

Q: Why is Syndion not corn-free?
A: The Vitamin D3 in Syndion contains a small amount of corn starch, so Syndion cannot claim to be corn-free although on final release analysis Syndion tests to be free of corn protein. Beware if you are using another nutritional product that claims to be corn-free and contains Vitamin D3 as we know of no source of Vitamin D3 that is not either in corn oil or spray-dried on corn starch.

         -----------------------------------------------------   Ingredients, Quality & Manufacturing -----------------------------------------------------

Q: I am concerned about quality manufacturing?
A:
Syndion is manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) conditions in an FDA inspected facility, and is independently tested at Covance Laboratories, 3301 Kinsman Blvd., Madison, WI 53704 http://www.covance.com/analytical/index.php.

Q: Where do the raw materials come from?
A:  All ingredients meet high quality standards of purity and potency and are received with certificates of analysis from reputable vendors.

Q: What are the processing methods used?
A:  Syndion does not contain herbs, herbal extracts, enzymes, or biological compounds for which quality is determined by the method used for their preparation.  The processing of Syndion is done under dietary supplement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) procedures using only low heat. The product’s integrity is tested upon releasing each batch and a certificate of release is issued.

Q: Does Yasoo Health chelate the minerals and nutrients when appropriate?
A:  We purchase the minerals and nutrients in their chelated or pure states.

Q: Why did you use cyanocobalamin and not methylcobalamin?
A: The clinical study found that it was very effective (in combination with folinic acid and other nutrients) in normalizing glutathione. We use it instead of methylcobalamin because the methyl form is less stable in solution.
