Need some ideas to help your child take Syndion?

We understand a multivitamin and mineral supplement consisting of 31 different vitamins and minerals may have a strong taste to some individuals, so we have asked our customers for ideas on methods to administer Syndion and ways to ensure that it is taken consistently. Their suggestions are:

  • Mix with a small amount of fruit juice with a strong flavor such as grape, mango, pineapple, or berry, or with “Vruit” juice such as carrot juice
  • Mix with applesauce, pudding or yogurt
  • Mix into a smoothie
  • Mix with juice, then freeze into popsicles (be careful of melting – the beta-carotene can stain clothing)
  • If you choose to mix, tell your child that the vitamin is there so they will understand and prepare for an altered taste
  • Provide a drink right after they swallow the supplement, even if it is just water
  • If necessary use a syringe and squirt slowly into the child’s month - placing the syringe against the inside of the cheek allows the liquid to miss most of the taste buds
  • When taking Syndion with a teaspoon, try to place it on the back of the tongue so it will miss most of the taste buds
  • Develop a routine for taking the supplement just like you were administering a medication - this will allow your child to prepare
  • Maintain consistency, such as keeping the vitamin in the same location, allowing your child to help pour it, or letting them choose a special spoon to use to take it
  • Let your child know that taking their supplement is not an option
  • Provide your child with a reward directly after they swallow the vitamin  (stickers are always a favorite)
  • Taking your own supplement at the same time your child does, will allow them to see the importance of taking their vitamins

Taking vitamin supplements with meals improves absorption and minimizes digestive issues - and dividing the daily dose among 2 or 3 meals is helpful. It is also helpful for the meal to be a complete meal containing fats and proteins and not just carbohydrates.

If you experience discomfort or adverse side effects, you may need to reduce the dose and increase more gradually until the target dose is reached. If you experience sleep problems, complete the entire daily dose by noon.
